The web’s inventor, Tim Berners-Lee, dreamed of a two-way street—reading and writing for everyone on the web. That dream died when browsers dropped creation features.  Historically, communication technologies—from printing press to video—democratized, but web pages didn’t. So you’re stuck browsing, unable to meaningfully contribute.

Big Tech and AI companies are consolidating unprecedented power—building an insurmountable moat around digital creation.  New ideas will be smothered or swallowed whole. Soon, fundamental alternatives to the dominant attention economy may become impossible, no matter how desperately needed.


The CTRL Foundation is assisting to build a truly viable alternative to a future where expression is permanently shaped by profit algorithms and synthetic AI content.  We must establish a human-centered social platform before the gates close entirely.
